Flood emergency in Nepal: supporting displaced families and children
On August 26, 2026, severe flooding hit Nepal, forcing many families from their homes and leaving them struggling to access basic necessities and healthcare. Working alongside our local partner, Save the Heart Nepal, we helped provide medical care, medicines and essential supplies to affected communities.
The Impact of the Floods on Local Communities
Disrupted transport links and limited access to essential supplies and medical care made the situation even more difficult for displaced families, many of whom had to seek refuge in temporary shelters.
In the immediate aftermath, we remained in close contact with Save the Heart Nepal to monitor the situation and identify the most urgent needs.
The emergency response focused on Nuwakot District, in Belkotgadhi Municipality, along the Trishuli River, where three emergency shelters were accommodating approximately 450–500 people, including many children.
Emergency response: more than 400 people received medical care
Together with our local partner, the response focused on three main priorities: providing essential supplies, delivering medical care and offering initial psychological support to those affected by the floods.

The local team reached Belkotgadhi, where more than 400 people, both adults and children, received medical check-ups. Healthcare professionals provided treatment and distributed medicines, paying particular attention to people whose ongoing medical care had been interrupted by the emergency. Plans were also made to refer those needing further treatment to available healthcare facilities.
Alongside medical assistance, clothing and other essential supplies were distributed, with items purchased locally according to the needs identified at the shelters.
Initial psychological support was also identified as a priority, particularly for adults and children experiencing fear, sleeplessness and other reactions to what they had been through. The aim was to offer a first source of support and identify those who might need further assistance.
A long-standing partnership in Nepal
We have been working in Nepal for years alongside Save the Heart Nepal through our Children’s Heart Program.
This established partnership made it possible to respond quickly, thanks to local professionals who know the area and work closely with authorities and emergency shelters.
As Sher Rana, Secretary General of Save the Heart Nepal, highlighted, the floods left thousands of families without homes and struggling to access essential supplies and healthcare.
Following the initial response, local teams continued gathering information about the needs of affected communities to help plan the next steps and provide further assistance.
Our Support for Families in Nepal Continues
Several weeks after the floods, many families are still dealing with the consequences. We continue to support the work of our local partner, Save the Heart Nepal, to help communities facing ongoing challenges.
Your donation can help us continue this work and support families who still need assistance.
